Horning - Bangladesh School and Parents' Project

Bangladesh School and Parent’s Project.
Four years ago Zahangir Hossain from Dhaka, Bangladesh was searching the internet for someone to help him with his 1st-5th grade school where he is the director . He found me and wrote to me because of an article I had posted about education.
He told me his story. He and his school buddies from the University of Dakha had to do a school project to help the people in his country. When Zahangir was a young child, he was uprooted from his home and they lived in a small village in dire poverty. One of the people who took their family in was a Christian family. It was there that he became open to Christianity. Nevertheless, he is secular with a background mixture of Hinduism and Islam.
I began to follow his posts in Bengali with google translate. I picked up a conversation between him and his friends in which he was asking them for some money to build some shelves for the books in the corrugated tin four-room school house that he and his buddies had built for the children. He was asking for the equivalent of $20 dollars. The children sit on the floor and have no school in this jungle district and the government is too poor to build a school for these “outcast” families who do small farming. He never asked for any money but I said, “I will send you the money for the bookshelves. How much do you need? He said, $100 dollars.” We sent him $300.
So we have been helping this volunteer school with 50 children to keep going. But when the Coronavirus hit there three weeks ago, the government closed everything up and the parents of the children who live off of $20 to $60 dollars a month, suddenly had no food to eat. Annette and I were scheduled to fly over and get to know them but until the Coronavirus is over, we are grounded. So we have begun sending them $200.00 every ten days and with that we are feeding the families and children of some thirty people with rice and yuca flour.
I am asking if you would like to help us? Anything would be a help for the next couple of months. After that we will fly over and get a full scope of the situation, preach to these people the Word of God and work with them on a longer term project of helping them to buy the land they are renting for the school. If your heart goes out to them as ours has, we have never had an opportunity to do so much with so little and preach Christ.
If the Lord leads you to help in any way, please make a check out to “Elim Fellowship” and put a note that it’s for THE HORNING PROJECT.
Thank you for your help!
Steve and Annette Horning
